Emirates has revealed that it will launch the first scheduled Airbus A380 flights to Taipei next year.

Commencing on 1 May 2016, the Dubai-based carrier will upgrade its existing Boeing 777 service to the Taiwanese capital to its new high-capacity A380, which features more than 600 seats.

Taipei will be one of three new A380 destinations for Emirates in 2016, along with Birmingham and Prague.

“The introduction and increase of Emirates’ A380 services in these strategic destinations means more travellers will have the opportunity to experience our industry-leading A380 product,” said Thierry Antinori, the airline’s executive vice president & chief commercial officer.

“Deploying larger capacity aircraft, such as the A380, also helps us to efficiently meet growing passenger demand in these markets, contribute to tourism development and enhance customer choice and options.”

The upgrade from the B777-300ER aircraft to the new high-capacity A380 will offer 44% more seat capacity on the Dubai-Taipei route. The two-class aircraft features 615 seats – 58 in business class and 557 in economy – the most of any commercial aircraft operating in the world today.

Emirates flight EK366 will depart Dubai daily at 0435 and arrive at Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airport at 1650. The return flight, EK367, will then leave Taipei at 2330, arriving in Dubai at 0505 the next day.

Taoyuan International Airport recently completed enhancements to make it compatible with the A380, and Emirates will become the first airline to fly the double-decker jet to the hub.

Emirates now operates a fleet of 71 A380s but plans to expand this fleet to 140 in the coming years.
