Emirates has revealed plans to launch flights to the remote Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of northwest China.
On 3 May 2016, the airline will commence four weekly flights between Dubai and Yinchuan, the region’s capital city. Services will continue on to Zhengzhou, the capital of central China’s Henan province.
Located along the ancient Silk Road, Ningxia is home to a large Muslim population. Earlier this year Yinchuan hosted the China-Arab States Tour Operators Conference 2015, which attracted tourism delegations from several Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE.
Zhengzhou meanwhile, is one of the largest cities in central China, and a key economic hub.
“With the opening of these new strategic routes, Emirates looks forward to contributing to the enhancement of China’s trade links with the rest of the world, in particular with the UAE and Arab world. We believe the new international air links that we are launching will help create tourism and trade opportunities for Chinese business and leisure travellers that may not otherwise exist,” said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman & chief executive of the Emirates Group.
“With our established network across Africa, Europe and the Middle East, Emirates is a ready-made connector of people and trade, and we look forward to further developing aviation links with China in a mutually beneficial way.”
Emirates’ flights will depart Dubai International Airport every on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 0245, arriving at Yinchuan’s Hedong International Airport at 1335. The service will then take off from Yinchuan at 1520 and arrive at Zhengzhou’s Xinzheng International Airport at 1700. The return flight will leave Zhengzhou at 2110, arriving in Yinchuan at 225. It will then depart again at 0040 every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, arriving in back in Dubai at 0430.
Emirates will serve the route using a 266-seat, three-class Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.
Yinchuan and Zhengzhou will join Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in Emirates’ Chinese network, but Sheikh Al Maktoum said he is considering the possibility of launching new routes in the future.
“As China’s regions continue to open up to the global economy, Emirates remains keen to support this with the further expansion of air services in mainland China. In particular we’re interested in exploring the opportunity of daily services to Hangzhou and Chongqing, and a second daily service to Guangzhou,” he revealed.
