Etihad Airways and airberlin have unveiled a unique new joint aircraft livery, as part of the partnership between the two airlines.
The new Airbus A320 was unveiled at an event in Berlin by Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, airberlin’s CEO, and James Hogan, Etihad’s president & CEO. Designed to mark the launch of a new media campaign called ‘Moving Forward’, the single-aisle aircraft features both airlines’ names on the fuselage and the two companies’ logos on the tailfin.
Etihad acquired a 29% stake in airberlin in 2011, at a time when the German carrier was experiencing financial difficulties.
“The comprehensive commercial partnership with Etihad Airways has brought many benefits to airberlin, including our shares of joint revenues of EUR200 million (US$273m), which is an integral part of our turnaround programme,” said Prock-Schauer.
“Partnerships are vital in today’s aviation industry. Our partnership provides significant benefits to Etihad Airways, airberlin, as well as to our guests,” he added.
This cooperation will be expanded in 2014, as the number of flights operated by Eithad and airberlin between Abu Dhabi and Germany rises from 42 to 49 per week, with the addition of a second daily flight to Munich.
The codeshare partnership will also be extended to offer airberlin passengers access to new destinations in India, Australia and South Korea.
