Etihad continues Alitalia stake talks

Etihad Airways has entered the final phase of a due diligence process to potentially acquire a stake in struggling Italian airline Alitalia.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier’s president and CEO James Hogan and Gabriele Del Torchio, chief executive of Alitalia will work with their advisors during the next 30 days to determine how the two could work together effectively.
A statement from the two airlines said: “Any issues that may prevent the establishment of an appropriate business plan will have to be resolved to ensure the plan can be implemented to move Alitalia to sustainable profitability.”
Etihad has been acquiring stakes in various European carriers to boost its connectivity in the region including airberlin, Air Serbia and Darwin Airlines.
