Etihad creates NZ connections via Hong Kong

Etihad Airways has entered into a new partnership to provide passengers with new travel options between Europe, North America, Hong Kong and New Zealand.
The Gulf carrier has expanded its codeshare partnership with Hong Kong Airlines to include the latter’s new direct flights between Hong Kong and Auckland, which will now be sold under Etihad’s ‘EY’ code.
In return, Hong Kong Airlines will be able to place its ‘HX’ code on Etihad’s flights from Abu Dhabi to Paris, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Manchester, Milan, Munich, New York and Zurich.
The two carriers already codeshare on Etihad’s Abu Dhabi-Hong Kong flights, so passengers will now be able to book travel through from Europe or North America to New Zealand, via Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong.
“Our codeshare agreement with Hong Kong Airlines was initiated in 2014 with a primary focus on enhanced connectivity between Asia and the Middle East. Ever since then, we have continuously reviewed opportunities to provide improved offerings and greater access to our customers in Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi and beyond,” explained Kevin Knight, Etihad’s chief strategy & planning officer.
“The expanded codeshare will drive… enhanced connections and a more frequent service between Australasia, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America.”
Etihad and Hong Kong Airlines initiated their codeshare agreement in December 2014, including routes connecting Hong Kong with Abu Dhabi, Bangkok and Okinawa. It was expanded in June 2015 to include Etihad’s Madrid services.
