Etihad Airways will double the number of flights it operates to New York later this year.

From 1 March 2014, the Abu Dhabi-based carrier will introduce a second daily service to the US city’s JFK Airport, using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

The new daily service will depart Abu Dhabi International Airport at 0145, arriving at JFK at 0745. The return flight will leave New York at 1135am, getting back into Abu Dhabi at 0920 the following day.

This will complement Etihad’s existing 1030 daily departure from the UAE, and the 2140 return flight from New York.
Initially, the new flights will be operated by Etihad. But the operation will be switched to Etihad’s Indian partner, Jet Airways, from 1 May 2014, with Etihad codesharing on the flights.

“New York City is one of the most popular destinations in our network, not only for guests flying from Abu Dhabi, but also for business, leisure and family travellers from a wide range of connecting destinations,” said Etihad’s president & CEO, James Hogan.

“These services will provide greater access to New York City for travellers from Abu Dhabi and further evidence of the importance of Abu Dhabi as a global air transport hub.”

In addition to the increased New York frequency, Etihad plans to launch two new US destinations in 2014. Daily flights to Los Angeles will start in June 2014, while three weekly flights to Dallas will commence in December 2014. The airline also flies daily to both Washington DC and Chicago.
