The Financial Times has revealed that the chief executive of Etihad Airways would be willing to sell its stake in Aer Lingus Group Plc, if the Irish government gets behind the IAG offer.
James Hogan noted the company would make a great return if the 1.35 billion euros (US $1.48 billion) deal went ahead.
The carrier landed a 3% stake in Aer Lingus in 2012 in a bid to access more European routes and in 2014 Etihad added an additional 4.9% stake in the company.
