Etihad Airways has purchased seven full flight simulators (FFS) for its training academy in Abu Dhabi.
The deal with Canadian manufacturer CAE is worth more than US$200 million at list prices and will see Etihad take delivery of one A380 and three B787 simulators, along with one A350 and two A320 versions. These will be installed at airline’s academy, which is currently being expanded. The new simulators will join the existing training fleet of four simulators: one B777, one A320 and two A330/A340s.
“The pilot training requirements for Etihad Airways, as well as members of our equity alliance, continue to grow and these new full flight simulators will ensure we are ideally placed for the next phase in our expansion,” said James Hogan, Etihad’s president & CEO.
“The construction work at the training academy will double its size and eventually house 11 full flight simulators and be among the best in the world,” he added.
Etihad currently operates a fleet of 77 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, but has a further 90 jets on firm order, including 41 B787-9 Dreamliners and 10 A380s.
