Etihad Airways has announced a number of changes to its North American flight schedules, intended to enable more convenient connections for passengers in the Indian sub-continent.

From 29 March 2015, the Abu Dhabi-based carrier will re-time its services to Chicago, New York, and Toronto to establish new connections for flights to and from Dhaka, Kathmandu and Kolkata.

The new times also allow passengers to connect with other key South Asian destinations, including Colombo, Delhi, Karachi, Lahore and Mumbai.

“Demand for travel between the Indian sub-continent and North America continues to grow year-on-year and we’re delighted to change our schedule in order to support this requirement and to increase the travel options for our guests,” said Kevin Knight, Etihad’s chief strategy & planning officer.

“The new schedule will create a more even balance of Etihad Airways’ flights to North America across the early morning and mid-morning banks. This will result in fewer passengers transiting through the hub at peak periods and will enhance the customer experience.”

As a result of the changes, Etihad’s daily flight to Chicago will move from a 0930 departure to 0340, while its three weekly flights to Toronto will switch from 1025 to 0250. The return flights from Chicago and Toronto will arrive in Abu Dhabi at 1220 and 1205 respectively, allowing for improved connection times.

The return flight from New York will depart JFK Airport three hours later to ensure its arrival in Abu Dhabi coincides with the early afternoon bank of flights to South Asia.

Etihad said the changes have also been made in conjunction with Jet Airways.
