Etihad Airways has confirmed that its Airbus A380 aircraft will start flying to New York a week earlier than planned.
The airline will deploy the new double-decker aircraft on its daily Abu-Dhabi-New York JFK service on 23 November 2015, replacing the Boeing 777 aircraft that currently operates the route.
The A380 deployment was initially intended to commence on 1 December, but Etihad said it has brought the date forward to coincide with the US Thanksgiving holidays and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“The overwhelmingly positive response we have received to our A380 service on our Abu Dhabi to London and Sydney routes, as well as for our upcoming launch to New York has exceeded our expectations,” said Etihad’s president & CEO, James Hogan. “With the early introduction of our A380 service into New York, we look forward to further redefining what world-class air travel can be for our guests.”
Etihad’s A380 features a range of luxurious cabin products, including the three-bedroom Residence, nine First Apartments, 70 Business Studios, and The Lobby, a lounge with sofas and a bar for premium passengers. There are also 415 economy class seats, and all passengers are offered Wi-Fi, in-seat power sockets and USB and power points, and in-flight entertainment.
Etihad’s daily New York service will depart Abu Dhabi at 0320 and arrive at JFK Airport at 0910. The return flight will the leave New York at 1430 and arrive back in Abu Dhabi at 1215 the next day.
