Etihad Airways has launched its first Airbus A380 flight to New York.
The inaugural service touched down at JFK Airport on Monday 23 November, replacing the Boeing 777-300ER previously operated the direct flight from Abu Dhabi. The new aircraft will offer New York passengers the airline’s latest cabin products, including the three-room Residence by Etihad, which is available for US$32,000 one-way.
Etihad operates twice daily flights to New York, with the second flight operated using a B777.
“The arrival of our A380 service at JFK International Airport is an important milestone for Etihad Airways as we respond to increased demand from our guests travelling between New York and Abu Dhabi and it represents the significant growth our airline has undergone in just 12 years of operation,” said James Hogan, Etihad’s president & CEO.
“The revolutionary products found on board Etihad Airways’ fleet of A380s completely reimagine commercial aviation standards and we are proud to bring them to our guests traveling between the US to Abu Dhabi and beyond.”
The A380 service will now depart Abu Dhabi International Airport daily at 0320, arriving in New York at 0910. The return service will then depart JFK Airport at 1420, arriving back in the UAE capital at 1215 the following day.
As well as the Residence, Etihad’s A380 offers nine First Apartments, 70 Business Studios and 415 economy class seats.
Etihad’s fleet of A380s now flies to London Heathrow, Sydney and New York JFK, with services to Mumbai and Melbourne scheduled to begin in May and June 2016 respectively.
