The European Commission (EC) has approved dnata’s acquisition of Stella Travel Services UK and Stella Global.
Emirates-owned dnata has been given the green light to purchase the group, whose brands include TravelBag, Travel2, Sunmaster, Global Travel Group and Triton Rooms.
The EC said it believed that due to a number of competitors in the market the group would not be at an advantage in tour operating and travel agency distribution.
The EC statement said: “Given the parties’ limited combined market shares for the distribution of travel services and the presence of a number of credible competitors, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not raise competition concerns.”
dnata and Stella announced the acquisition in September for an undisclosed sum.
“The addition of Stella Travel Services to the dnata portfolio enhances our offering to customers and the travel trade, strengthening our position as a global company,” said Iain Andrew, divisional senior vice president of dnata’s travel business. “The combined strength of Stella Travel Services, its brands and our group will deliver considerable benefits for our customers and suppliers.”
