Unmarried Brits would look to spend GBP5,000 on the honeymoon of their dreams, according to new research from Kuoni.
An OnePoll of single 2,000 adults on behalf of the tour operator found the “perfect” honeymoon would include four days relaxing in the sun, three exciting activities and at least a third of time spent sightseeing or experiencing new cultures.
Most still yearn for candle-lit meals and champagne on arrival when heading on honeymoon although want to spend two days of 14 taking part in activities or sport.
They expect to get through two books while relaxing while only a sixth wants to check social media while on honeymoon.
The Maldives topped the poll of where honeymooners would like to go, although Kuoni has found destinations such as Italy and Vietnam to be more popular with guests.
“People are no longer content with a week or two lounging around by the beach or pool, instead newly married couples are hoping for a bit of adventure, they want to learn more about the country they are visiting and return home with tales of the amazing things they have seen and done,” said Kuoni’s managing director Derek Jones.
The tour operator is also seeing more couples head back to the destinations they honeymooned in to recreate the experience and mark a special occasion.
“We’re seeing a growing trend for ‘special occasion’ travel. Many customers are using milestone events in life, such as wedding anniversaries or ‘big zero’ birthdays to recapture the romance of their original honeymoon and use those events as an opportunity to see more of the world and splash out on another trip they can tick off their wish list,” added Jones.
