Royal Caribbean has confirmed that it is in negotiations to build a third Oasis-class ship – ready for delivery in 2016.

Royal Caribbean Cruises chairman and CEO, Richard Fain, made the announcement in tandem with the company’s third quarter results:  “The Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas have proved themselves to be exceptionally attractive ships by generating the highest guest satisfaction ratings in the fleet coupled with very compelling financial returns.

“Ordering another such ship for delivery in 2016, at a lower cost, with better energy efficiency is very consistent with our balanced goals of prudent growth, return improvement and debt reduction.”

The announcement comes shortly after the firm declined to comment on speculation that STX shipyard in Turku, Finland was in the process of readying the yard for the order. Turku was where both the Oasis and Allure were built – the largest two cruise ships in the world.
