Fairmont has unveiled the latest stage of its expansion in China, with plans for its first luxury hotel in Wuhan, the capital of central China’s Hubei province.
Scheduled to open in 2017, Fairmont Wuhan will feature 350 rooms and suites, four dining outlets and approximately 2,500m² of event space. It will also include Fairmont’s Willow Stream Spa concept, a fitness centre and swimming pool.
“We’re pleased to be introducing the Fairmont brand to another important domestic market in China” said Jennifer Fox, president of FRHI International.
“Wuhan’s position as a base for industry, as well as being the financial, educational and transportation hub of central China, makes it an ideal location to develop a luxury hotel. We look forward to being a key part of the city’s continued growth.”
The new hotel will form part of a mixed-use development in the city’s new 7.41km² Wuhan CBD area, which will also feature office towers, residential buildings and commercial facilities.
The Wuhan property will join four Fairmont’s currently operating in China: Fairmont Beijing, Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, Kunshan’s Fairmont Yangcheng Lake and Fairmont Nanjing.
But the company also plans to open new hotels in Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Suzhou and Taiyuan over the next three years.
