Nearly a fifth (19%) of Brits are planning a holiday during the Olympics, according to new statistics from ABTA.
The association has said around nine million Brits are taking a holiday during the games, with around two million people still undecided if they are going to take a break.
However, most holidaymakers (59%) said they are taking a holiday at their usual holiday time, which just happens to fall on the Olympic weeks. Around 11% want to specifically escape the Olympics fever, while 7% cited the bad weather as their holiday decision.
Around 59% of the population are said to be excited about the games, with Londoners naturally the most keen. “Numbers are fairly consistent with past years showing that whilst some have chosen to forgo a summer holiday during the games, these have been balanced by those wanting to get away,” said Victoria Bacon, head of communications at ABTA.
