Finnair has unveiled plans to launch a new route to Astana for the summer 2017 season, to coincide with the hosting of the World Expo in Kazakhstan’s capital city.
From 20 June to 11 August 2017, Finnair will operate two weekly flights direct between Helsinki and Astana using its Airbus A319 aircraft. The World Expo kicks off in Astana in June 2017.
“The addition of the Astana route will be a great asset in our expanding network for the summer 2017 season,” said Juha Järvinen, Finnair’s chief commercial officer. “This will be the first time Finnair flies to Kazakhstan and we are excited to take this first step in growing our operations in the Central Asian region.
“Millions of visitors are expected to attend the World Expo 2017 and we look forward to offering our European and North American customers an efficient way to travel to the Expo through our Helsinki hub,” he added.
The new flights will depart Helsinki every Tuesday and Thursday, while the return services from Astana will operate on Wednesdays and Fridays. The flight time is approximately four hours.
