Finnair will roll-out new flat-bed seats on a range of long-haul routes this summer, including several Asian services.
Effective 1 April 2014, the airline will deploy Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft featuring flat-bed seats in business class on its routes from Helsinki to Tokyo and New York. Then from 1 May, the roll-out will continue on routes to Beijing and Seoul, with flights to Hanoi, Hong Kong, Nagoya, Osaka and Shanghai being upgraded from 1 June.
The result of a EUR29 million (US$40m) retrofit programme, the new seats recline 180⁰ to provide a fully-flat bed stretching up to two metres in length, with a shoulder width of 58cm. The seats also come with reading lights, adjustable headrests and personal in-flight entertainment systems.
“We believe that full flat seats are the new quality standard for long-haul business travel,” said Allister Paterson, Finnair’s chief commercial officer. “A promise of comfort and quality to key business destinations will help make Finnair a very compelling option in business travel, particularly between Europe and Asia.”
After the retrofit programme is complete, all of Finnair’s long-haul Airbus fleet will have flat-bed seats in business class, with the exception of three older aircraft. These three are due to be removed from service in 2015, following the delivery of Finnair’s new A350s.
