Next month, Finnair will unveil a major upgrade of its in-flight entertainment options.
To coincide with its 90th birthday on 1 November 2013, the airline will nearly double its IFE content on long-haul flights, with a choice of 72 movies and more than 150 TV programmes available on demand in both economy and business class cabins.
Meanwhile, on the Finnair’s new Airbus A321 aircraft, passengers will be able to hire Samsung Tab 3 tablets for EUR10 (US$13.50), which come pre-programmed with video and music content, as well as games and newspapers.
“Tablet computing clearly has the potential to revolutionise in-flight entertainment, as tablet systems are much lighter and easier to keep up to date from an operations point of view, while also offering the customer a much richer and more interactive entertainment experience,” said Jouni Oksanen, Finnair’s director of customer entertainment.
“If tablet-based entertainment proves to be successful on these new aircraft, we will of course continue to evaluate the possibility of implementation across the fleet.”
The IFE upgrade marks the latest phase in Finnair’s cabin product improvement. By September 2014, all but three of Finnair’s long-haul aircraft will be fitted with the flat-bed seats in business class.
