Finnair workers go on strike
Staff at Finnair’s Technical Services department walked out on Tuesday 5 June, in protest over their potential retrenchment.
The employees’ unions said the strike will last for one week.
The move follows the breakdown of negotiations with the airline and unions over proposed financial support and re-employment support packages for employees who are at risk of redundancy. Finnair is planning to outsource its engine and component services and part of cost-cutting plan.
The airline said that while the majority of its flights will not be affected, “some cancellations… can be expected”.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this walk out might cause for our customers. We will make every effort to ensure continued operations so our customers’ travel plans won’t be disturbed,” said Anssi Komulainen, Finnair’s Senior Vice President of Customer Service.
In April, Finnair signed a deal with SR Technics for the outsourcing of its engine and component maintenance support operations.
