Hotels developed under the Harrods brand could be launched in London, New York and Paris by its Qatari owners, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Qatar Holding, the investment arm of the country’s sovereign-wealth fund, has already signed an agreement to open a Harrods Hotel in Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Bintang shopping district and another in Sardinia, Italy.
Construction on the KL hotel is set to start in a year following a £414m investment with plans to develop into other cities.
Qatar Holding bought out the Harrods name two years ago, with the Knightsbridge institution a popular destination for wealthy Gulf and Asian travellers.
It said it would prefer to build on sites it already owns, such as the Chelsea Barracks in London or Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda.
