Voyages to Antiquity will welcome its highest profile guest lecturer next November as Michael Buerk joins a November 2017 cruise.

The veteran journalist and BBC newsreader will be one of three expert speakers joining the 12-day Seville, Morocco and Canary Islands cruise as the MV Aegean Odyssey travels from Malaga to Tenerife.

Best known for his illustrious career as a foreign correspondent, including his 1984 coverage which exposed the plight of those affected by the Ethiopian famine, guests will be treated to “an audience with Michael Buerk” evening.

During the course of the interactive interview they will have the chance to find out about the world events that punctuated his career and his thoughts on the historical issues affecting the modern world.

With the intimate ship carrying an average of 350 passengers, guests will have ample opportunity to mingle with the broadcast journalist after his talk as well as throughout the sailing as it travels along the Guadalquivir River to Seville, across the Mediterranean and up the Moroccan coastline on its way to the Canary Islands.

The two other guest lecturers on board the cruise will be space volcanologist Peter Cattermole, who studied volcanoes on Mars and Venus in his capacity as the former Principal Investigator with NASA’s Planetary Geology and Physics Programme, plus the celebrated BBC broadcaster Ernest Rea, who specialists in religious history and the impact of faith upon contemporary society.
