Hyatt will add another hotel to its Sydney portfolio this year, with the launch of its Hyatt Regency brand in the city.

The company has secured the management contract for the existing Four Points by Sheraton Sydney at Darling Harbour, which will be rebranded to Hyatt Regency Sydney at midnight on 30 November 2016. It will become the company’s second hotel in Sydney, following the existing Park Hyatt.

“Hyatt hotels have been operating in Australia for more than 30 years, providing a solid foundation for future growth in what is a dynamic market,” said David Udell, Hyatt’s group president for Asia Pacific. “This hotel will resonate with business and leisure travellers alike, and furthermore, we believe this hotel will be a leader in providing outstanding exhibition and function spaces.”

Prior to its reopening, Hyatt Regency Sydney will undergo major AU$250 million (US$185m) renovation that will include the development of a new 24-storey tower featuring 222 additional guestrooms. This will make it largest upscale, full-service hotel in Australia with a total room count of 892.

Additionally, the hotel will introduce a new restaurant, a new Regency Club lounge and the only hotel rooftop bar in Sydney. Hyatt Regency Sydney also will feature more than 3,450m² of function space, including two ballrooms that can seat more than 1,000 people.
