Hastings Pier is to undergo a restoration thanks to new money from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
The fund will put GBP11.4 million forward for a GBP13.9m project, alongside money raised by local businesses and residents including cottages4you’s Jubilee party earlier this year.
Work is expected to start in the spring and will be reopened at the end of 2014.
“This is a brilliant decision by the Heritage Lottery Fund for the future of the Pier and the future of Hastings. The commitment and support of everyone involved has been crucial to this success and the Trust is indebted to a great many people and organisations,” said Simon Opie, chief executive of the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust. Carole Souter, chief executive at HLF said the renovation would also “provide much-needed opportunities for social and economic regeneration”.
