Malaysia Airlines (MAS) suffered another setback on Sunday, when a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Seoul’s Incheon Airport had to make an emergency landing due to a problem with the aircraft’s power unit.
The national carrier confirmed this morning that flight MH066 was diverted to Hong Kong due to “an inoperative aircraft generator which supplies normal electrical power”.
The Airbus A330-300 aircraft was able to generate sufficient electrical power via the Auxiliary Power Unit, and the unscheduled landing at Hong Kong International Airport was made safely.
MAS said all 271 passengers onboard M066 have now been transferred to Seoul on other carriers.
But the incident continues to shine an unwanted spotlight on MAS. The mystery into the missing flight MH370 still no closer to being solved, and another MAS flight was struck by a flock of birds while approaching Kathmandu Airport on Friday, breaking the aircraft’s landing light.
