Galaxy Macau will double in size following an investment of HK$43 billion (US$5.5bn) in two new developments.

Boosting the integrated resort’s footprint to 1.1 million square metres, the expanded flagship property Galaxy Macau and brand new Broadway at Galaxy Macau will open their doors on 27 May 2015.

The projects will include three new hotels, adding more than 1,500 new rooms and suites to the complex, plus an expanded rooftop Grand Resort Deck featuring a 575-metre-long “skytop aquatic adventure river ride” and the world’s largest rooftop wave pool.

The Broadway area will be a new entertainment zone featuring food vendors, live entertainers and performances, while the 3,000-seat Broadway Theater will stage a series of live acts. The new Promenade area will offer more than 200 retail outlets, and there will also be more than 120 F&B outlets.

“Our commitment to the development and continued success of Macau remains stronger than ever, which is why today, 10 years after making our debut in Macau, we are proud to formally introduce two more groundbreaking projects to our ever-expanding portfolio,” said Dr. Lui Che-woo, chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG).

The three new hotels include the 250-suite Ritz-Carlton Macau, which will become the luxury brand’s first all-suite hotel, plus the 1,000-room JW Marriott Hotel Macau, the largest JW Marriott in Asia, and the 320-room Broadway Hotel. These properties add to Galaxy Macau’s three existing hotels, the Banyan Tree Macau, Hotel Okura Macau and Galaxy Hotel.

The Broadway hotel and entertainment area has been developed on the site of the former Grand Waldo complex, which was acquired by GEG in 2013.

“We have always done our utmost to bring tremendous new offerings to the market – to attract more tourists, give them reasons to stay longer, enjoy spending more with the diversified attractions Macau has to offer,” said GEG’s vice chairman, Francis Lui.

“We are now taking our vision even further by doubling the size of our resort and presenting unlimited experiences. Together these add a further 550,000m² to our existing developments in Cotai, which will increase our footprint to over 1.1 million square metres of spectacular attractions.

“Just 18 months ago we completed our acquisition of the Grand Waldo Complex and today, following over HK$5bn in investment, it is being reborn in tandem with the completion of our flagship resort of Galaxy Macau. Together these new developments deliver a more diverse set of experiences to meet visitors’ growing desire to enjoy a wider world of indulgence, style, fun and privilege.”
