Design-led accommodation provider Generator has offered a free bed to anybody left stranded by Storm Ciara, which swept across Northern Europe on 9 February. Visitors with pre-existing train and flights reservations could use their train or plane ticket to reserve a bed for free at Generator Berlin-Mitte, Generator Berlin Prenzlauer and Generator Hamburg on 9 February.

Storm Ciara, which in Germany has been named Storm Sabine, swept across the continent, hitting Germany’s North Sea Coast on Sunday morning causing major disruptions to public transport across the region. An additional 23% of Generator’s rooms booked at its Berlin properties and 46% of rooms at its Hamburg property were given to visitors affected by the storm for free.

Edward Pinchard, chief commercial officer at Generator said: “Given the numbers of those affected by the wide-scale cancellation of flights and trains in Germany, it made sense for us to step in to try and help some of those impacted. Over the past few years, Generator has completely overhauled all systems, bringing in the centralisation of bookings which is allowing us to adapt and respond to situations such as this effectively and efficiently.”

Pioneers of affordable luxury and masters of the social experience, all properties include a range of room types from shared to private bedrooms, chill-out areas, bars, cafes and a variety of spaces available for private hire.
