Grand Hyatt Taipei has completed the first phase of a major renovation that is rebuilding the hotel “from the concrete up”.
The luxury hotel has unveiled 853 new rooms and suites in the most significant overhaul of the property since it opened in 1990.
The revamped rooms now feature light-coloured wood interiors and marble bathrooms with walk-in showers or bathtubs. Room sizes range from 33 to 40m² on the grand and deluxe levels to more than 83m² in an executive suite and 221m² for the presidential suite.
“[This renovation] is tantamount to a ground-up rebuild,” said Kai Speth, the hotel’s general manager. “Once the work is done, the hotel will have the unique distinction of becoming the oldest and the newest luxury hotel in Taipei.”
Following this first phase, the hotel will embark on a complete redevelopment of four of its nine restaurants, its club facilities and outdoor entrance area, plus behind-the-scenes systems including air-conditioning and electrics.
The full renovation project is expected to be completed in spring 2015.
