Hainan Airlines has celebrated the arrival of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The delivery, which took place on Wednesday 8 June 2016, makes Hainan Airlines the first Chinese carrier to operate both the B787-8 and B787-9 versions of the Dreamliner.
It will now take delivery of 14 more B787-9s in the coming months and years, and intends to deploy the aircraft on long-haul routes, primarily to destinations in North America.
“The 787-9 Dreamliner will be a great addition to our long-haul fleet,” said Mou Weigang, vice chairman of Hainan Airlines. “The 787-9’s super efficiency, capability and in-flight experience will accelerate our market position internationally.”
The inaugural B787-9 flight will operate from Haikou to Beijing on 13 June, before commencing daily services from Beijing to Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
The aircraft will then enter long-haul service on Hainan Airlines’ new route from Beijing to Las Vegas, which is due to commence in September 2016.
