Hawaiian buys more Airbus jets
Hawaiian Airlines has continued its fleet renewal programme with the signing of a major new order with Airbus.
The US carrier has completed a firm order for 16 Airbus A321neo single-aisle aircraft, which will come fitted with 190 seats in a two-class configuration.
“As our Airbus fleet expands, so does our destination network,” said Mark Dunkerley, president & CEO of Hawaiian Airlines. “Our fleet of A330s has prompted great response from our customers and employees alike. And the addition of the A321neo to our fleet is expected to generate around one thousand new jobs at our airline.”
The A321neo is the stretched version of the new fuel-efficient A320neo series, which is due to enter service in 2015. A321neo deliveries are expected to commence a year later.
The Hawaiian Airlines order is worth US$1.8 billion at current list prices, and adds to previous purchase orders for 21 Airbus A330s and six A350s.
