Heathrow Express has commenced talks with the RMT union through Acas to avoid more workers’ strikes.
The rail operator said it was keen for RMT to have input into its proposals to secure the future and jobs of the company and to improve safety.
The company has criticised the union for the strikes for costing money that could potentially put jobs at risk.
HEX’s managing director Keith Greenfield said: “Strikes are self-defeating because they add to the GBP6m we need to save over the next five years in order to secure our future and jobs for our people. We and the RMT are meeting with the help of Acas today and we are keen to have their input to shape our proposals rather than continuing a course of destructive strike action, which is putting jobs at risk.”
Two thirds of RMT members that work for HEX have been on various strikes in the last few weeks, with last week’s on Wednesday seeing 69% of services run. This was an improvement on the previous strike day on 26 May when 48% of services operated.
