Wayne Hemingway is to direct a special festival in Liverpool as part of celebrations to mark Cunard’s 175th anniversary.
A series of cruise-themed events will be held across the city on 4 July 2015 when Queen Mary 2 sets sail for the US from the terminal, recreating Britannia’s voyage in 1840.
The festival will focus on the impact of transatlantic travel and the glamour of cruising covering all areas including fashion and food, plus the cruise industry’s impact on Liverpool itself.
Wayne Hemingway, who will be creative director of the festival said: “This is an internationally significant milestone that is being celebrated in a city whose creative stature is growing, and we are honoured to be able to contribute to what will undoubtedly add to the increasingly positive brand that is Liverpool.”
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “Liverpool led the way with the start of passenger shipping back in 1840 and we are determined to mark Cunard’s 175th anniversary in style. We are really excited that Wayne who is at the forefront of British design and his team will be working hand in hand with us to create an unforgettable weekend for residents and visitors taking place on the greatest waterfront in the world.”
Queen Mary 2’s sailing will call at Halifax and Boston before finishing in New York on 14 July.
