InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) has opened its second Holiday Inn Express in India.
The new Holiday Inn Express is now open at Mahindra World City in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The 140-room property is a part of joint venture with Duet Smart Hotels India. The two companies have signed an agreement for developing 19 Holiday Inn Express hotels in India.
Located in Mahindra World City, Holiday Inn Express Chennai offers well-appointed rooms catering the business travellers, free Wi-Fi and breakfast facilities. The hotel also offers a multi-cuisine restaurant ‘Five Spice’, a bar, two functional meeting rooms, a fitness rooms among other facilities.
Speaking at the opening of the hotel, Pascal Gauvin, COO for India, Middle East & Africa at IHG, said the Holiday Inn Express brand would be the key driver of IHG’s growth in the Indian market. Out of the 57 hotel projects that are in the pipeline in India.
Adding further, Naveen Jain, President of Duet Smart Hotels India, said that their entry into Chennai was a testimony to the immense growth potential for the mid-scale hotel segment in South India. He said that the group is committed to developing more Holiday Inn Express hotels under the joint venture.
The third Holiday Inn Express property will be operational in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh by March 2014, Jain informed. Four more projects under the brand are currently underway, including one property each in Chennai, Mumbai and Indore (Madhya Pradesh). These will be ready within the next three years. The company is looking at brownfield development as well as acquisitions in Goa, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and NCR Delhi.
The first Holiday Inn Express opened in Ahmedabad in November 2012.
