Tenerife’s holiday resorts have been unaffected by a fire in the region although some geographic regions should be avoided, its tourism board has advised.
Tourist attractions and leisure facilities on the island are all open and ‘working smoothly’ following the fire on Friday, which affected the El Tanque, Los Silos, Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide municipalities.
The fire has now been cordoned off in a specific high mountain area in the north of the region although some road sections remain closed to traffic.
It is thought that a heatwave and the area’s dry winter had contributed towards the wildfires. Flights to and from Tenerife have continued to operate, with coastal resorts untouched.
The Foreign Office has urged tourists on the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera to stay in touch.
