Holland America Line has welcomed its newest cruise ship, ms Koningsdam.

The 99,500-tonne, 2,650-passenger vessel was officially handed over to the cruise line in a ceremony at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Italy on 31 March. It becomes Holland America’s first Pinnacle-Class ship.

Following the delivery, ms Koningsdam will make its way to Rome’s Civitavecchia port for its inaugural voyage, which departs on 8 April. The ship’s official naming ceremony will take place in Rotterdam on 20 May.

“Today is a day of celebration for the entire Holland America Line family, and a milestone in our company history. We all share in this proud moment as we welcome Koningsdam to our fleet,” said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. “Koningsdam looks spectacular, beyond our expectations, and we thank all those involved for their dedication and commitment in bringing our vision to life.”

Koningsdam will feature 1,331 guest cabins plus a series of F&B outlets, onboard entertainment and other facilities. A new Music Walk area will showcase a range of musical acts, while the ship’s theatre will include a 270-degree LED projection screen.

Following the naming ceremony, the ship will head to its summer homeport of Amsterdam and embark on a series of northern European and Baltic cruises, before returning to the Mediterranean in September. In autumn, the ship will head across the Atlantic Ocean to Florida, where it will homeport at Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades and spend the season sailing in the Caribbean.

Koningsdam becomes the 13th ship in Holland America Line’s fleet.
