The eyes of the world were on Marrakech recently, as 35,000 delegates from nations across the globe met to discuss the best way to combat climate change and implement the Paris Agreement.

Following a spectacular piano concert and laser light show at the Menara gardens to kick off proceedings, the main events and meetings were held in the Bab Ighli village, a 300,000 square metre area specially created for COP22.

Attendees arrived at the nearby Marrakech Menara Airport, newly refurbished with a brand new terminal, and made their way through the historic streets to the conference village.

As host of the event, Morocco has been setting an environmental example, with the largest concentrated solar farm in the world just eighty miles south-east of Marrakech.

There is a pledge in place to fit over 600 mosques with solar panels, Moroccan villagers farm drinkable water from mountain fogs, while on the Atlantic coast 131 turbines form Africa’s largest wind farm, providing enough electricity to power Marrakech every day.
