Hyatt has continued to expand its presence in China with the launch of a new luxury hotel in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
The new Grand Hyatt Chengdu marks Hyatt’s debut in Sichuan. Spanning floors 10 to 39 of the 166-metre-high Chicony Square tower, in the city’s main Jinjiang district, Grand Hyatt Chengdu offers access to most of the city’s main attractions.
Designed by New York-based Tony Chi & Associates, the hotel features a series of open garden spaces that are said to be “inspired by the landscape throughout Sichuan province and the elegant, stylish homes of France”.
“We are glad Hyatt is now part of Chengdu’s vibrant and aspiring legacy,” said Christopher Koehler, Hyatt’s vice president and managing director of operations for China. “The opening of Grand Hyatt Chengdu is a significant step forward in developing Hyatt brands in key gateway cities where our guests are traveling. We look forward to welcoming guests from all over the world to create memorable experiences.”
Grand Hyatt Chengdu features 390 rooms and suites, ranging in size from 40 to 190m² and all offering views of downtown Chengdu through floor-to-ceiling windows.
The hotel has seven F&B outlets, including restaurants, an Asian-style outdoor barbecue, a patisserie, cabaret-style nightlife venue and a tea house. One of the dining outlets, located on the 16th floor, showcases local Sichuan cuisine.
Other facilities include a fitness centre, a 25-metre heated swimming pool and the Huan Spa, which houses five treatment rooms and 12 foot massagers, along with steam rooms and saunas.
The hotel is also expected to become a major MICE venue, with more than 3,000m² of event space on the 10th and 12th floors. This includes a 712m² ballroom, a 1,350m² “Versailles-style” outdoor terrace with gardens and fountains, and nine separate residential-style meeting spaces measuring between 81 and 311m², seven of which feature separate living rooms and two of which have open kitchens.
Commenting on the design philosophy, Tony Chi said; “Chengdu has been a prized and important strategic post for 2,000 years and has an incredible, longstanding culture and heritage accumulated over centuries. This was our starting point and foundation in the creation of Grand Hyatt Chengdu, and we wanted the hotel to reflect and respect the traditions of the city, while hopefully touching the subconscious with genuine hospitality.”
Grand Hyatt Chengdu becomes the 10th Grand Hyatt in mainland China, following existing locations in Beijing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Lijiang, Sanya, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
