Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is looking for more travel agent and tour operator partners in the UK and German markets to outbalance the struggling Spanish domestic business.

The Spanish hotel chain already has close ties with Thomas Cook but is actively looking to partner with more online travel agents and tour operators to boost its presence and occupancy levels.

Oscar Gonzalez, marketing manager at Iberostar told Travel Daily the group is performing in line with expectations but has suffered with the weak Spanish economy and less of the country’s residents travelling.

Meanwhile from the UK, more flights from the likes of Jet2 continue to fuel demand for expansion, with Iberostar seeking hotel sites in Ibiza, Menorca, Gran Canaria and Turkey amongst others.

“We have 68 hotels in Europe but have the capacity and resources to find more opportunities. We could also expand beyond Europe into perhaps the Caribbean and Middle East,” Gonzalez said.

Inside its hotels the company is offering premium service packages for an additional charge that include features such as coffee machines, a VIP room and more, while its focus on gastronomy will continue to be offered in its hotels. This will also extend into agent events, with culinary masterclasses in the pipeline.
