Iberostar has announced plans to revamp its hotel in Tunisia as tourism to the country recovers.
Refurbishment to rooms at the Iberostar Averroes has now been completed while work continues at the Iberostar Mahari Djerba.
The Iberostar Diar El Andalous will also be converted into a five-star property and will be the brand’s first hotel to offer the Star Prestige area, which is the ‘leisure version of an executive lounge’.
“Tunisia is growing again and it’s cheap to travel to so we are confident that UK travellers will return,” Sofie Etien, Iberostar’s trade marketing manager told Travel Daily. “These refurbishments mean we are ready to welcome them to an updated product.”
Several other Iberostar properties are also due to go through renovations in the next two years. Its Royal Cristina hotel in Majorca is currently being renovated while the Royal Playa de Palma will be updated next year. The Suites Hotel Jardin del Sol and Albufera properties have both had new Star Prestige features added, which is becoming an expanding area of the hotel group.
“Our Star Prestige areas have dedicated rooms and spaces that only our premium customers can use. It made sense to create a space for them when they have paid extra,” Etien explained. “This will be rolled out at several of our hotels but they need to have the space for the facilities.”
Room upgrades are also planned at the chain’s Anthelia, Bouganville Playa and Fuerteventura Palace in the Canaries while the Las Dalias will become fully all-inclusive.
Further afield the spa at the Grand Hotel Bavaro in Dominican Republic will be refurbished next year and a new Japanese restaurant will be added to the Costa Dorada hotel on the island.
A new hotel has opened in Brazil while opportunities are being explored in more leisure and city locations.
