The famed Ibiza beach club, Cafe del Mar, will arrive in the Maldives for the first time next year following a partnership with Thailand’s Singha Estate.

The two companies have come together to jointly create a “world destination” in the Indian Ocean archipelago.

It will form part of Singha Estates’ new mega-resort project in the Maldives, which will also include a yacht marina, retail outlets and hotels. Hard Rock International has also signed up for the project.

“In Maldives, the beach club by Café Del Mar will be a flagship outlet in the Indian Ocean with space of over 5,000m². The club is popular among its fans thanks to its high creativity. They have created their own music which is tailored made for each event or activity,” said Thiti Thongbenjamas, chief investment officer for Singha Estates. “This partnership is a very exciting as it could open a chance for Thai music fans to meet with… big named artists in the future.”

Founded in Ibiza in the 1980s, Cafe del Mar grew famous as being a destination for the world’s top DJs. It has since developed its own record label and expanded its beach clubs to locations around the world. The Maldivian Cafe del Mar will be located adjacent to the new marina and will feature a beachfront swimming pool. It is expected to open next year.

Café del Mar’s Director, Domenic Zappia, said he was happy to be expanding his company’s brand to the Maldives.

“The Maldives offers a unique location that is very attractive to Café del Mar. It has an amazing weather, a relaxed vacation atmosphere, a stunning Indian Ocean view, and most importantly, a stone-throw away from the capital city, Male. It’s the perfect location for us to expand the Café del Mar experience to a new market.

“We will stay true to our core values, a relaxed style of architecture and design, offering a good quality food and beverage, whilst delivering impeccable service to our customers,” he added.

Once complete, Cafe Del Mar will be the largest beach club ever built in Indian Ocean. Singha Estates said that images of the Maldivian mega-project would be released “very soon”.
