IHG’s Candlewood Suites brand has launched a new initiative that will enable guests to borrow items and appliances they have left at home.

Following an in-house study which revealed that 60% of extended-stay hotel guests miss something from home when travelling, the brand has created the new ‘Lending Locker’ scheme, allowing guests to borrow items not typically found in hotel rooms, such as games and kitchen appliances.

“One of the brand hallmarks that has long defined the Candlewood Suites brand is our ‘Candlewood Cupboard’, which operates on the honour system,” said Robert Radomski, vice president of brand management for Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites.

“Our guests know and appreciate that our hotel teams treat them like trusted members of the family. With the Lending Locker, we are expanding that notion of trust, and further demonstrating that our hotels are like home for our guests by offering complimentary use of a variety of appliances, games and other items they normally use at home.”

Having been piloted in 10 properties for over a year, the Lending Locker is now being rolled out to all 304 Candlewood Suites hotels, and will be available in all properties by spring 2014.

In the pilot scheme, popular borrowed items included the board games Monopoly and Scrabble, Xbox games consoles, George Foreman grills, waffle makers, golf clubs and rice cookers.
