IHG and IL&FS Skills celebrate the launch of the new IHG Academy

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has launched its second IHG Academy training centre in India.

Under a partnership with IL&FS Skills, IHG has opened a new training campus in Kalimpong, West Bengal. This follows the launch of India’s first IHG Academy in New Delhi last year.

“As one of the largest hotel companies in the world, we are in a great position to help train local talent and increase the proportion of employable workforce for the hospitality industry,” said Shantha de Silva, IHG’s head of Southwest Asia.

“Over the next 12 months our target under our IHG Academy partnership with IL&FS is to train 100 students across the country. With this rebranded centre in Kalimpong we are confident of drawing more young local people from Northeast India to undergo our high standards of hospitality training.”

IHG said the Kalimpong centre is intended to attract young talent from the rural areas of northeast India. IL&FS Skills will operate the centre, providing IHG-approved vocational hospitality training. Students will also be given practical training at hotels, and will be able to apply for full-time roles at IHG hotels upon completion of the course.

To date, the IHG Academy partnership with IL&FS has trained 44 Indian students, with a further 47 currently undergoing training.
