IHG ramps up Indonesian expansion plans

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has revealed a major expansion plan for Indonesia, including the growth for its Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands and the nationwide launch of Hotel Indigo.

Announced at the InterContinental Jakarta today by Alan Watts, IHG’s Vice President of Operations for Southeast Asia, the expansion will see five of the company’s brands operating in the country in the next few years, with Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo accompanied by InterContinental and Crowne Plaza.

“Indonesia is a key growth market for us and we are excited about the opportunities here,” said Watts. “With the scale we have built and the operational excellence we have achieved globally, we are confident that we will be able to bring world class delivery to our hotel owners and a high quality experience to our guests in Indonesia.”

Holiday Inn’s nationwide roll-out will begin in 2013 with the opening of the Holiday Inn Jakarta Kemayoran, followed by openings in Bali and Solo in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

Holiday Inn Express has a pipeline of nine hotels scheduled to open in Indonesia over the next two years. These include two openings in Jakarta, one in Bali and one in Semarang in 2013, plus debuts in Surabaya, Solo, Bogor and Yogyakarta, and a third Jakarta property in 2014.

Boutique brand Hotel Indigo will debut in Indonesia in 2016, with the opening of the Hotel Indigo Jakarta Kemang, while the luxury InterContinental brand will also expand with a new resort in Bali due to open in 2015.
