InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a management agreement for its first hotel in South Korea’s second largest city, Busan.

Being developed in the central Seomyun district of the city, the 268-room Holiday Inn Busan Seomyun will form part of a new ‘lifestyle hub’ featuring shops and restaurants. Hotel facilities will include a fitness centre, rooftop swimming pool, meeting rooms, a business centre, lobby lounge and a restaurant on the 20th floor, overlooking the city.

The Holiday Inn and surrounding developments are expected to be ready in 2017.

“There is thriving tourism across South Korea’s major cities and as its second largest city Busan is also one of the fastest growing destinations in the country,” said Karin Sheppard, IHG’s chief operating officer for Australasia, Japan & Korea and AMEA franchising.

“We’ve identified a number of opportunities for growth and are especially pleased to be entering Busan with one of our most well-loved brands, Holiday Inn.”

IHG currently operates eight hotels and resorts in South Korea across its InterContinental and Holiday Inn brands. And the new Holiday Inn Busan Seomyun joins a pipeline of 48 Holiday Inn properties IHG plans to open across Asia and Middle East in the next three to five years.
