InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has partnered with Vietnam’s largest low-cost carrier, Vietjet, for the development of a new hotel close to Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
The agreement with Thuy Duong-Duc Binh Trading and Vietjet will lead to the launch of the new Holiday Inn & Suites Saigon Airport, which will become one of the brand’s first hotels in Vietnam when it opens.
The property will form part of a mixed-use development that also includes a retail mall and residential apartment building. It will offer easy access to the airport and will also be connected to downtown HCMC via a new metro line, which is due to open in 2017.
“Ho Chi Minh City is a major gateway to a number of Vietnam’s major industrial parks and manufacturing centres, and in recent years its seen an increase in foreign investment,” said Leanne Harwood, IHG’s vice president of operations for Southeast Asia & Korea.
“These have all contributed to a healthy rise in visitor arrivals into the city and there is a great opportunity to bring another quality branded hotel into the market to cater to the rising number of business travellers. We look forward to welcoming guests into the hotel when it opens in 2018.”
Vietjet’s CEO, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, added; “With our growth trajectory in the travel industry, it’s a natural next step for us to look for a hotel partner with a strong track record of operating great international hotels to work with.
“The Holiday Inn brand is one of the most recognised hotel brands in the world and we are delighted to be working with IHG to open one of the first Holiday Inn hotels in the country with the launch of Holiday Inn & Suites Saigon Airport.”
Once open, the new hotel will feature 350 rooms, a restaurant, lobby lounge, a swimming pool with pool bar, fitness centre, business centre, eight meeting rooms, and a departure lounge where guests can wait prior to boarding their flight.
This is not IHG’s first collaboration with an airline in Vietnam however; the InterContinental Asiana Saigon in downtown Ho Chi Minh City is operated in partnership with South Korea’s Asiana Airlines. In total IHG now operates six hotels in Vietnam, but plans to double this portfolio to 12 properties in the next three to five years.
