India drives growth in Asian airport traffic

Airports in the Asia Pacific region continued to record rising passenger numbers in November 2014, driven by rising traffic in India.
According to the latest data from Airports Council International (ACI), the region’s airport traffic climbed 6.0% during the month. Bangkok‘s Don Mueang Airport saw the strongest growth, rising 48.8% year-on-year, but this was followed by three fast-growing Indian hubs: Kochi (+26.9%), Hyderabad (+21.9%) and Bengaluru (+20.2%).
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport also posted strong growth in November, rising 8.6%, while traffic in Chennai climbed 12.5%.
Beijing Capital International Airport (+9.1% year-on-year) remained the region’s busiest airport in November 2014, followed by Tokyo Haneda (+5.4%).
For the first 11 months of the year, Asia Pacific’s airport traffic increased 5.0%.
