India has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Colombia that will allow the two countries to cooperate in the field of tourism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the agreement between the Indian Ministry of Tourism and Colombia’s Ministry of Trade Industry & Tourism, which covers a wide range of areas.
The overall aim of the MoU is to “expand bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector”, including the exchange of tourism information and data, the creation of exchange programmes for tourism workers, and fam trips for tour operators and the media.
The two countries will also encourage cooperation between tourism stakeholders, such as hotels and tour operators, the exchange of best practices in the areas of promotion, marketing, destination development and management, and participate in each other’s travel fairs and exhibitions.
India’s Ministry of Tourism noted that Colombia is “an emerging tourism source market for India”. It recently organised a roadshow in Bogota to promote India to the Colombian travel trade, and this event received a “good response from travel trade of both countries”, according to the ministry.
“Considering the mutual benefits, signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of tourism would enable both countries to enter into a constructive dialogue for development and promotion of tourism in each other’s country for the economic development of the two nations,” the ministry said.
