India has sent a letter of condolence to Thailand, following the bomb attack that killed at least 20 people on Monday.
Sushma Swaraj, India’s Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, wrote to the Thai government, saying; “I wish to convey on behalf of the government and people of India, our sincere and heartfelt condolences at the tragic loss of innocent lives.
“India has consistently condemned terrorism in the strongest terms and we express our solidarity with the government and people of Thailand in the fight against terrorism. We are ready to assist the authorities in any way possible.”
India is not urging travellers to avoid Thailand in the wake of the attacks, saying only that its citizens should take “basic precautions and safety measures”.
Meanwhile, Thomas Cook India yesterday issued a statement saying it has “received no cancellations of Thailand bookings” following the bombing, although some travellers have opted to defer their plans to a later date.
Monday’s bomb hit a Hindu shrine in the centre of Bangkok.
