India’s tourism industry continued to rise in the first half 2015, albeit at a slower pace than in 2014.
According to the latest figures from India’s Ministry of Tourism, the country welcomed 3.85 million overseas visitors in the six months to 30 June 2015, 3.4% more than in the same period last year. But this marks a significant slowdown from the 10% year-on-year growth seen in 2014.
In June 2015 alone, India welcomed 513,000 overseas visitors, up 1.6% year-on-year.
The USA (22.2% of total arrivals) was India’s largest source market, followed by Bangladesh (17.0%), UK (7.2%), Malaysia (4.0%) and Sri Lanka (3.4%).
Delhi Airport (25.9%) accounted for the most inbound visitors during the month, ahead of Mumbai Airport (17.6%), Chennai Airport (11.61%) and the Haridaspur Land border with Bangladesh (10.0%).
India earned tourism receipts of US$9.61 billion in the first six months of 2015, up 2.9% year-on-year.
