Indian air traffic jumps 15% in September

The Indian passenger aviation sector continues to boom, with double-digit growth recorded in September 2015.
According to the latest data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Indian passenger traffic jumped 14.6% to 6.67 million passengers last month, compared to September 2014.
Low-cost carrier IndiGo remains the country’s most popular airline, accounting for 36.5% of passengers boarded in September, ahead of Jet Airways (22.0%) and national carrier Air India (15.9%).
SpiceJet, which is recovering fast from its troubles of 2014, was India’s fourth largest airline, accounting for 12.3% of total traffic. But SpiceJet also managed to achieve the highest average load factor, filling 93% of its seats – comfortably ahead of second placed IndiGo (79.4%).
There were mixed results for India’s new airlines; Vistara, the Tata-Singapore Airlines joint venture, recorded the country’s lowest load factors (62.4%) but the best on-time performance, with 94% of its flights departing on schedule. However regional start-up Air Pegasus only managed to achieve an on-time performance of 67%.
